Just an Old Sweet Song [Planning] — Christen @ 2:52 pm

…keeps GEORGIA on my mind.

downtown Atlanta

Yes, that’s right, Georgia.  We found out that we are going to have to move to Atlanta, instead of Chicago next year.  At first I was really disappointed.  The windy city has great shops, Navy Pier, restaurants, culture and is located right on Lake Michigan.  Not to mention, it is a short flight home, since we are originally from Michigan.  Add to that, the fact that I thought I knew exactly which building we were going to live in.  Needless to say, with this change of plans, I was not a happy camper.

However, Frank already "monster-ed" jobs in the Atlanta area.  To my surprise, he thought Atlanta was better than Chicago.  He also spent several hours last night going through homes for sale that we can "afford" in the suburbs outside Atlanta.  I really l.i.k.e. that idea!  It didn’t take long before I became convinced that the Peachtree state is the place for us!  Warm weather, friendly people, good hospital systems, great jobs for Frank and finally owning our own home!  Look out Atlanta Hawks, there is a Detroit Piston coming to town, (okay so I’m not a huge sports fan … let’s try that again…), look out Ray Charles, a little bit of Motown is headed your way!  Whatever, you get the idea!

**Anyone know of good agencies in the south?  We’re still strongly considering EAC, but I’m just curious what else is out there.  I know most agencies work in all the states, but this really adds a new dimension to my agency research … just the first of many times I’ll need to flexible, I’m sure.**

  1. Hi,
We lived in Austin and used EAC two years ago to get a wonderful little girl from Tver that was two and now four. Just e-mail me if you want to talk. Good luck. I heard Frank foundation was good also, it is out of NC

  2. Just my two cents worth, but I’ve noticed it’s been taking a long time for people who are using EAC and Frank. Both have got so big that you turn in to another number. I would totally recommend my agency (they are out of Ann Arbor, MI) however, they will be loosing their accreditation on March 1st and I don’t know how long it will take to get it again. BUT it only took us 8 months from start to finish and we couldn’t be happier with them. THEY WERE GREAT! Their link is on my blog if you are interested. Good luck.

PS. Maybe I missed it, but what do you do for a living? Navy?

  3. We lived in Chicago for 5 years and we did not like it. The weather there is HORRIBLE! I would take Georgia over Chicago in a heartbeat. However, I do miss the restaurants. We live in the DC area now and you would think they would have good restaurants- but they do not compare to Chicago. Still, no one could pay me enough to move back to Chicago because the weather is SO cold and bitterly WINDY all winter long. Of course I have never lived in Georgia, but we have visited friends there (Atlanta) and they love it.

  4. Jen is right that the winter sucks in Chicago but I was looking forward to “meeting” you there when we go back to visit friends and family. I’ve only been to Atlanta once for work, and few in and out of there in 24 hours…

  5. We live in the southeast, and we have used Children’s Hope International. They are a larger agency - the main office is in St. Louis, and the Southeast regionl office is in Tennessee. So far, we’ve had a really great experience with CHI…even though they are larger, we have not felt like “just a number” at all.

This is the first time I’ve been to your blog, by the way…I’m Melissa…and I got here by lots of clicking (you know, one page leads to another…)

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you want more info on CHI. And best of luck to you! :)

  6. Check out World Partners Adoptions. They’re based out of GA and we’re considering them ourselves, out here in NE FL. We’ve heard lots of wonderful things about them.

  7. I still say you don’t have to pick an agency in your home state or close by. Is still stand by my huge, strong, colossal recommendation of Alaska International!!!

  8. I stumbled on your blog from the International Adoption Families website and wanted to say hi or hey as they say here in Atlanta. My husband and I moved here from Milwaukee 4 years ago and we could not be happier. We live in a lovely northern suburb about 30 minutes from the city called Alpharetta.

I’m sorry I can’t recommend an agency for you. We are adopting from China and are using a China only agency.

Good luck on the move and if you have any questions on the ATL, just holla :) .
