PC or MAC [Bloggerland] — Christen @ 3:44 pm

First of all, THANK YOU to everyone who posted comments on my last post.  It’s really nice to have supportive people out there to vent with and I hope I can avoid getting angry at stupid, judgemental women in the future.  In this case, though, it felt like a come back was necessary.  Anyways…. enough of that!

I’ve officially become a convert.  No, I’m not switching religions or anything that major, but I purchased my first MACbook.  I’ve never used a MAC.  We’ve always had a PC, both desktop and laptop.  We are heading home for a week to visit family and friends in Michigan, so we pick up the computer while we’re there.  I’m super excited because I’ve heard how amazing MAC’s are for photos, web design/blogs, videos, music, etc.  However, I’m a little nervous because I use Microsoft Powerpoint and word all the time for school.  I bought the program iWork that converts the files, but I’m hoping I can use it with little trouble.  Anyway, just wanted to share and lighten it up a bit after my last Mommywars post.

This whole thing got me thinking, which kind do you guys use, PC or MAC?

For those of you who use a MAC, was it difficult to convert?  Do you have any tips for me?

  1. I am a Windows PC user but would love to get into the MAC world if it just wasn’t so impractical because of my work. I have heard the same thing about the photo, web design stuff and I can’t wait to see what you can do with it. I love my iPod and I so want to be converted! ;-)

  2. I love my Mac! I had a Mac ages ago, then had to get a PC after my return from the UK (struggling actors buy from Dell–who are also great). Now, I’ve got a Mac mini and it’s great. I have had no problems converting documents, etc. from pc to Mac. Enjoy!!

  3. So. completely. and. utterly. jealous.

I am chained to my PC piece of crap for lack of funds. As soon as I have the dough I am chucking this thing out the window.

  4. Graphic designer here…I use both. Honestly, the programs run the same. The only issue you’ll have is with font converstion. You will live. I promise!

  5. Hey,
I’ve been out of the blog world latley, but I’m back. I read your last post. WOW– Good for you! I get that way too. My mother was not a stay at home mom, but many in the area where I live are. Those comments fly quite a bit, it’s assumed “Oh when the kids come you’ll quit your job and stay home and we can get together more.” WELL — I DON’T PLAN ON STAYING HOME!! Sometimes like you I get mad, but for the most part I feel sorry for (SOME OF) those women and take that approach. I wish they had more in their life to define them. Not all, but for some, their kids are all they have and in 15 years, these women will be searching for themselves. While I will have a family and a good persepective on who I am. With that said, my sister is a stay at home mom, but her kids don’t define her.
I always stand strong on my decisions. I try not to divide the conversation — I simply say, “well, my values are a bit different, I was raised in a family where mothers were highly educated and worked. I think I turned out okay. My Great grandmother had her B.A before women had the right to vote. And went on to get a Masters from Columbia. SO women in my family are a bit different. But Hey that’s great you can do that and want to do that. I’m sure you’ll enjoy the time together.”
I try to make sure my position doesn’t offend them, yet let them know I’m not going to trade sides and become a stay at home mom either.!! Now there are times where you need to just let a comment fly .. so you go GIRL!!

Oh and on the Mac -vs- PC
I used to be a Mac girl, but the boyfriend I was dating at the time when I used Macs was no longer around when I needed a new computer. SO the new boyfriend got me into PCs. He too is no longer around!!! (this was years ago)
My husband isn’t that computer savy (Sorry honey) SO when this computer goes… We might get a Mac –I liked them!!

  6. Hope you have a great trip home. I use a PC but would love to hear your experiences with getting a Mac. I’ve wanted one for so long but just don’t have the courage to convert yet.
