Talk [Family & Friends, Adoption] — Christen @ 1:07 pm

So this blog is supposed to be about Adoption, right? I guess I should return to some of those topics, as I’ve deviated from them for awhile now. Before I do though, I have to thank you all for not teasing me about my hair pictures. When I was looking back over my hair cut post I realized how funny those extreme close ups look. I really was just trying to show you the color against a dark background - not trying to pose like a Sears Glamour shot.

Anyways, back to Adoption stuff.

While we were home Frank told everyone (and I mean everyone) we spent time with that we’re planning to adopt as soon as we move back to the States. He told them all about what he’s learned about Russian Adoption, the process, the children, etc. I couldn’t believe it. He actually has been reading our blog, some of yours and listening to me when I blabber on and on about all this stuff. He actually knew what he was talking about. (Not that my hubby isn’t smart… he really is…. but, I didn’t think he really knew that much about Russian Adoption.) He even told some of your stories to our friends and family. It made me feel good that he is excited and planning for this, too. The only thing that kind of bothered me is that we have both agreed we weren’t going to announce our official “start date” to people. We are planning to announce it in some sort of special way to our parents, first. Really though, that doesn’t matter…. what matters is that he is choosing to talk about it and learning about it on his own. He wants to share it with everyone we know because he is just as excited as I am about this! Adopting Olive is really going to happen and I’m not going to have to do all the work to get us there!

  1. That must have been an incredible feeling, to hear him talk about the adoption! My hubby & I are also adopting from Russia and it has meant a lot to me when I hear him talking about it- to know that he’s not doing this for me or because I want to, but because he’s genuinely excited about it, too. Can’t wait to hear more about your process! Best of luck!

  2. It’s amazing when all of a sudden they seem to jump on board and you find our they know what they are talking about.
I had that experience with my husband last month. He really does listen and read. WoW!

  3. It’s probably for the best that he got the news on out there. We had a hard time figuring out when and how to get the news going.

I’m so excited for you two. I can’t wait for you to get started and follow your blog on your journey.

  4. My husband was completely on board with the plan to adopt, but honestly, I think it was more my idea than his. A funny thing happened. We had to do some of our adoption education on-line, and I was impatient to get it completed and finish our dossier, so I went ahead and did it myself (for both of us), intending for Derrick to go back and do it later. He never did get around to finishing that on-line course. (Although he did do his share of other reading and research). The funny thing is that during court, we took turns standing, and the judge asked us questions individually. I went first, then Derrick. The judge asked Derrick to please tell her specific examples of things he had learned about adopting older children from Russia from his on-line education course. Man, was I sweating bullets during that part. I so wanted to pipe in with some helpful answers, but couldn’t. He did fine, though. Apparently, he knew more than I thought he did.

  5. Your hair looks great! No need to apologize. I like it when bloggers post pics of themselves. I like to know who I am talking to. I really like the blonde.

That is great your husband is excited and talking about the adoption. It is so important that both of you are on board.

  6. Isn’t it wonderful when the husbands get involved and show their excitement?? Took my husband ages to come around. Now he drives me nuts! I guess it’s OK that he talk about adoption. You can make a big announcement to your parents when you sign a contract. Then it’s official!

And I probably should have teased you about the hair photos because I am obnxious like that :)

  7. That is great that Frank is so excited about it. We also said that we weren’t going to tell anybody until he officially started the process, but Stu can never keep his big mouth shut. He finds a way to bring it up in every conversation.
It’s funny because when we were in court for our previous two adoptions, the judge questioned Stu for almost 2 hours while she only questioned me for 15 minutes. She later told us it’s because the husbands are usually the reluctant party in adoptions so she wants to make sure they are on board with the adoption plans. She said she could tell that Stu was as equally excited as me, if not more so, about adopting our son.

  8. Hi

How exciting that you are on the road to adoption-it is a wonderful journey, though emotional at times (mostly the waiting). Hope you enjoy your journey and that it is filled with joy!
